Twitter is experimenting (beta testing) with a ‘Verified Account’ feature To prevent identity confusion . Twitter working to establish authenticity with people who deal with impersonation or identity confusion on a regular basis. Accounts with a Verified are the real thing!

The purpose behind the verified accounts badge is to help users screen out which accounts to follow and which to steer clear from. It’s an authentication process that has been set up to help others avoid fake accounts. You know, the one’s that aren’t really Oprah or Ashton Kutcher. Because following the real celebrity accounts is what matters to you.

There is a form where people can people can request verification. After account verified  badge will appear in the top-right portion of a user’s profile page just above the name, location and bio—as shown in the screenshot above.

    Twitter is now dead to me. The hollywood whiners had their way with @Ev and he liked it.
    So how do we identify as “verified”? Is Michael McDermott the singer, Michael McDermott the mass murderer or Michael McDermott the prolific blogger and community strategist considered as “verified”. Because Michael McDermott the singer has more money than me, I guess he wins eh?
