An Infographic Look At Mobile Browser Usage

As modern smartphones become increasingly prevalent all over the world, it’s no surprise that more and more people are viewing websites via their mobile devices.

But which browsers are most popular? Not only would it be interesting to see which mobile browsers are the most commonly used, but particularly useful when ensuring your website is effectively optimised for mobile browsing.

Luckily we don’t have to speculate, as the team over at Pixel Design Studio have produced this phenomenal infographic:

We would expect Opera and the iPhone browser to be at the top of the list, but what’s fascinating is the rapid rise of the Android browser and the relative decline of Blackberry and other browsers. There are numerous reasons for a particular browser rising or falling in popularity, with the most prominent being the development of new technology (although it’s worth noting that the lack of Flash support doesn’t seem to have hurt the iPhone browser). Android, the Google developed browser, doubled its usage in 2011, due in no small part to a dramatic increase in the number of handsets supporting the browser.
